Daniel Shafer was born on Thanksgiving Day 1991. He smiled a lot! You can see that by looking at his picture. As he got older he liked to fish with father, Pete. He caught a carp that earned him a "Fish Ohio" pin and certificate. He loved going to church and preschool. He enjoyed playing outside and climbing small trees. He especially liked climbing the redbud tree at his Grandma and Grandpa's house. He looked up to his sister, Becky. They like to do "gymnastics" together. He was proud of himself when he learned to ride his Batman bike without training wheels. He played on a YMCA t-ball team, the Teal Tigers. When Pete mowed the lawn Danny used to follow behind with a toy mower.

Unfortunately, Danny developed a brain tumor that eventually kept him from doing all the things he loved to do. He was an amazing child who still gave hugs and high fives even after he lost his ability to see or talk. He was honored at a Young Heroes ceremony the day before he died, October 7, 1998.
