Run-Sheryl-Run. It’s me Sheryl Kent and I am hoping my first blog is successful. My decision to train for this marathon is full of firsts- my first time blogging, first time fund raising for an awesome organization-Premiere Community Health Breast Initiative, and this Saturday, I will join the double digit club as I run 10 miles for the first time ever. (Please keep in mind I was the kid that got sick after every Presidential Fitness Test in Phys. Ed. in grade school.)

Well, I successfully ran the 10 miles. It was not easy- that is for sure. I am so glad I have the support of others around me on our course. I could not have accomplished 10 without my running partner Sharon. (Thanks for your ability to keep my mind off of the running. Who knew we could talk a run for so long- lol)
I am looking forward to completing my first half marathon in Sept. at WPAFB as well as my ultimate goal of a whole marathon in San Antonio in Nov. That’s 26.2 Miles! I will try to blog weekly to keep you up to date with my training. Please remember that early detection saves lives- you can donate directly to Premier Community Health Breast Initiative through the Miles That Matter web site. Every dollar counts. Save the oobies!! – sk

Well, she did it! Sheryl was able to complete her 10 mile run on Saturday. She is now officially a member of the “Double Digit Club”.
Training for an event like this isn’t easy. But having a team that supports you and a reason bigger than you, is all you need. Keep it up Sheryl! Remember you are making a difference for yourself and others.
Remember out motto….”We make a living by what we do, we make a life by what we give”. See you at the finish line!!

Run-Sheryl-Run- It’s me again. I was able to run 11 this week. It is truly amazing to drive home and realize that I ran half that distance. Makes it seem as if we rely way to much on cars, but on the other hand, there is no way I would be able to function at work if I had to run to get there every morning. Three weeks until the AF Half Marathon. I think I am ready. I only lack 2.1 more on top of the 11. Next Sat. is 12.
Please remember why I am doing all of this. Early detection saves lives. You can dontate directly to Premier Community Heath on this site. Simply go to donations and select PCH from the drop down menu.
Every dollar counts- saving women’s lives one oobie at a time- sk

With every “mile”stone I have accomplished during my journey toward 26.2, I have come to realize that it is truly amazing that all things are possible through God.
When I first started this endeavour, I was tried, frustrated, and burned out with my life, and now after the end of each of my runs, I feel refreshed– mind, spirit, and amazingly body. With each stride, I am finding that the spirit is with me and moves me toward a more selfless life.
I have always used exercise as my time- believing that I was being selfish and not spending the extra time with my family; however, I have discovered that my goal to run a marathon may just be God’s perogative. He is giving me the freedom from work, family, and daily stress to go on a mini spiritual journey three times a week. This reality break gives me time to reflect, mediatate, and most importantly learn the truth about myself. Once one realizes the truth, a revelation happens. I can not explain the feeling- I only know that I have been set free.
This new found freedom is changing my life, and I hope it is making positive strides in my relationship with others. I have a feeling of wholeness- this peace now completes me. I will be running my first half marathon next Saturday, Sept. 20, and I want to thank each of you for your support throughout the past 3 month.
I am halfway there, but in spirit I have found the way, the truth, and the light. Each morning is a brand new day, and I now awake refreshed and ready to be a loving wife, mom, daughter, friend, neighbor and co-worker. I pray that each one of you will get an opportunity to go on your own spiritual journey and leave footprints for some one else to follow.- Sheryl

2:08:47- I did it!!! Saturday was a beautiful sunny day, and the USAF Marathon was a huge event! Just want to take a moment to thank my running partner Sharon- without her, I don’t think I would have ran the whole way. I’d also like to thank the 2:10 pace runner for keeping me in front of him. My goal was to finish and my dream was to run under a 10 minute mile. I am so excited to say I did both. It was not easy- no one told me that the AF Marathon was a hard course- but hey it should make San Antonio seem very flat. 2:08:47- not bad for a girl- as my dad would say. Well, next Saturday we are up to 16 miles. Wish me luck- I will not have all the fan fare for this run.- sk

Well, this weekend was another amazing milestone in the marathon training saga. I can not believe that I ran 16 miles- in 2:40- WOW!!! This is amazing in my eyes. But the legs were tired and sore afterward, so another milestone was met with my first ice bath. Directions for an ice bath- fill the tub with the coldest water possible out of the faucet then add ice. Burrrrr! I have to say, I am walking fine today. That shivering bath plus icing my knee paid off.
Just want to take a moment to thank all of you who have donated to Premier Community Health. I have raised over $1,000 so far- with my goal being $5,000. I want you to know that I have tears in my eyes every time I get a check in the mail or an e-mail notification. You all are the GREATEST. I appreciate all of your prayers and support. I am so blessed to have friends and family like you. I am glad this is only an e-mail, because if you saw a picture of me right now, you would see a weepy mess. Keep in mind these are tears of joy and triumph. I love you all- sk

We did it! Together we raised enough money to supply over 36 mammograms to women in the Miami Valley. Thank you for your generous donations and all of your love and support. The marathon was challenging, but despite the obstacles, I finished. I am already thinking about how I can improve next time.- sk
